Wolves in Shepherds Clothing: Justice for Lynn Messer and Victims of Abuse everywhere.
Let me catch you up… In July of 2014, the wife of a Missouri state lobbyist for Christian, Biblical, homeschooling, pro-life, and family values – disappeared. Kerry Messer stated that he woke up at 4:00 am from the noisy storm, realizing that his wife was not in bed. According Mr. Messer, Lynn simply walked away from her bed in the middle of the night, in the midst of a raging storm… He would also like us to believe that this gun owning, suicidal woman – left her gun behind. According to Messer, she did not take her phone or her wedding ring or any personal items for that matter. In addition, Mr. Messer would like for the church to believe that Mrs. Messer simply decided to leave the house, the children, her Vacation Bible School commitment, and her grandchildren behind. In addition to this bizarre line of distorted thinking by Kerry Messer – There was also the “friend,” Ms. Spring Thomas, who aided in the search effort – and has since become the girlfriend of Messer.
Unfortunately, the church has complied with Kerry Messer’s wishes. Not just the local congregation of First Baptist Church Festus, Chrystal City , but also he is still in the business of lobbying on behalf of Chrisitan issues. The pastor and members of First Baptist Church Festus have welcomed Kerry Messer, adulteress and suspected murder to continue in their fellowship – but they have honored him with distinction – as being the victim of circumstances and consequently exalted the alleged murder, and confirmed adulterous with a public memorial service scheduled for August 20, 2017 – A service that neither of the sons, nor Lynn Messer’s sisters or mother have been invited to…
Whereby I hope every single Christian in the area will show up and protest such a crude and disgraceful macabre. (If you can’t make it, you can call, email and write – see the bottom of the page).
Dr. Charles McClain, like so many large church leaders tend to attenuate the Gospel in their own desire to build their congregation’s numbers rather than confront sinners with the truth. I contend that when a church congregation gets so large that it is run by those with deep pockets – rather than that of sound biblical doctrine, that is when Satan devours.
And frankly, there is plenty of feasting at this all-you-can-eat buffet of sin.
Not only has Charles McClain, pastor of First Baptist Church of Festus, Crystal City, who spouts his “life verse” as being that of Joshua 1: 9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage: do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go,” dropped the ball – but he may find it interesting that I find him nothing more than a coward. A wolf in shepherd’s clothing. Nothing more than a modern-day Judas- accepting money to murder the truth.
What’s more, Dr. McClain has elevated an abusive spouse (Kerry Messer) to the level of proverbial sainthood – complete with his own set of dedicated (and wealthy) disciples… he has even commandeered the passive actions taken against Kerry Messer – including the carefully worded dismissal of Kerry Messer all the way to the Missouri Baptist Convention to personally initiate and declare the salvation of this domestic terrorist’s reputation.
During the period of time whereby McClain was personally counseling Abram Messer, son of Lynn and Kerry Messer and member (at that time) of McClain’s church – Dr. McClain went to the Missouri Baptist Convention and met with officials with regards to Kerry’s Messer’s dilemma. When Abram met with Dr. John Yeats (MBC Executive Director) he stated that a leader must be above reproach and that his father, Kerry Messer was admonished and removed from the position he held as their spokesperson – never to enter his office…
But, that statement was not the one that got published.
It seems that Kerry Messer himself went to the MBC officials and blamed Abram. After a couple more changes, the official statement made by MBC was that Kerry Messer had to be let go because of budget constraints. After all. we certainly don’t want to tarnish that righteous reputation…
Bottom line is that Dr. McClain has been given the responsibility to shepherd the flock assigned to him and now he has blood on his hands – and those who continue to follow this false teacher, will also be held responsible – Including that of the MBC.
“If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand” (EZ 3:18).
After all, …. Leaders are to be “Above reproach.” (1 Tim. 3:2).
If you don’t want to believe that Messer murdered his wife, covered it up by burning an alleged suicide note – that NO ONE actually saw…. There is the moving of the body – only to have it suddenly “reappear” in an area previously scoured by law-enforcement and search and rescue teams – found, mind you, by Lynn’s own granddaughters… The confidential burial that not even the son’s were invited to…
Then what about the adultery?
In an interview published by CBS affiliate KMOX reporter Kevin Killeen, Kerry Messer admitted that he had “been involved in a relationship with a woman following his wife’s disappearance” but in the same sentence – declared that this relationship that happened “after” Lynn’s disappearance was somehow “sanctioned” by his wife, only hours before she went missing.
Does that even make the slightest bit of sense to anyone with a sound mind? Either Lynn knew about the affair before she died – or she didn’t because it didn’t happen until after she died …. Which is it Kerry?
“Less than 12 hours prior to all of this (the disappearance),” Kerry Messer said, “I found out that she (Lynn Messer) had actually addressed someone to say this is what I hope … this is what Kerry should do if something ever happens to me” (Killeen, 2016).
Abram Messer had this to say to the members of FBC Festus:
I would add two things to this in response to various comments I have read.
- I’ve heard people say for almost 3 years now that my father has not been charged with a crime yet so what can the church really do?
This is very problematic from a biblical standpoint. Go back and reread 1 Cor 5 and Mat 18. Then message me and point out to me where the Word says something about charges being filed. It’s not there. We have to stop confusing sin, with the term “crime”. Crime is sin, but legally not all sin is considered a crime. Is it a crime to cheat on your wife? Nope. Is it a sin? ABSOLUTELY. So we must stop thinking about our biblical responsibility in terms of man’s law, because it is about obedience to a higher law- Gods law… (Messer, A. 2017 Facebook Post).

Kerry Messer went on to justify his affair with Spring Thomas by stating that his wife, Lynn “planted the seeds…”
That must be why the church is so quick to forgive Kerry Messer – It was all Lynn’s fault…
Let’s just ignore the alleged murder and obvious affair for a moment…
What about honoring your wife? Leaders in the church are called to a high standard – One of those standards is to love, honor and respect your wife.
With Lynn’s history of depression, which became evident a decade before her death – she reported being severely depressed to the point of suicide – even contemplating suicide at one point – but shooting the barn cats instead.
But during a counseling session (not at FBC Festus – but at a different community church) Lynn was advised by the pastor doing the counseling that she needed help. He wanted to refer her to a Christian psychologist or psychiatrist for a more in-depth analysis…. but Kerry Messer blew a gasket and said “absolutely not.”
As a matter of fact, each time Lynn Messer would attempt to get the help she so desired, Messer went along, and sat right by her side during the counseling sessions…. a frustration she would later convey to her son, Abram.
Other abusive behaviors committed by Kerry Messer – but not addressed by McClain, MBC, or other church members, are on display for all to see – yet the church remains silent.
On face book, interviews with law enforcement, and comments made to search and rescue teams as well as family – Kerry has repeatedly and consistently demeaned, humiliated, and belittled his wife during their marriage, during her disappearance, and after her death – even going so far as to make the following statement during her disappearance:
“We know Lynn wasn’t abducted by sexual traffickers, she’s not winning any beauty pageants.”
Not only did Dr. McClain or any of the leadership at FBC fail to ever confront these issues – they flat out ignored them – and continue to ignore behaviors by Messer in this ongoing investigation that are grounds for church dismissal – even though these issues and more have been brought to their attention by Lynn’s own son’s…. they are continually dismissed.
And if that isn’t enough… there are those pesky sexual harassment allegations against Messer – by 2-3 women he worked with at the Capitol – of course that was justified by those who worked with Messer as being “just a joke… that’s how he was.”
As a matter of fact, Abram Messer was told by Dr. Charles McClain that this “issue” would not be brought before the church (as commanded in Scripture) nor would it be brought before the deacon body – stating “that’s not ever going to happen,” and that Abram should not speak about the investigation to anyone in the church. Further, this good Shepherd sent Abram Messer, a member of the congregation, mind you, an email telling him that he needed to seek counsel elsewhere.
A Few Good Men… ?
Well it seems that those who do want to confront this sinful pattern of behavior are being shut up and shut out.
Apparently, there are a few good men… well, a couple anyway who are trying to invoke some sense of church discipline. The pastor at Messer’s girlfriend, Spring Thompson’s church sat down with her for a meeting – but it didn’t go far. According to Abram Messer, Charles McClain and his band of righteous solders quickly shut that down stating that they didn’t follow the biblical doctrine of church discipline procedure…
Pot… Kettle… comes to mind.
And then there is the lone voice speaking up in the Missouri Baptist Convention, Executive Board Member, Mr. Jeremy Muniz (email: pastorjeremy@fbcdesoto.com) – who, according to Abram Messer, is the only one who has taken a stand against Kerry Messer.
It is important to note that Mr. Muniz is up for the election of the MBC President. Let us pray that he gets it.
Please protest the “memorial service” by contacting church officials. Pray for Lynn Messer’s son’s, sisters, and mother – who were never invited to this memorial.

As I read these accounts I see the narcissistic personality disordered abuse cycle in each and every one of these posts. These people who are afflicted with these Custer B personality disorders are extremely Charming to the world but are also extremely harmful vicious and dangerous to their family members. I pray that the truth come out however to the family I say please no God knows all and if he chooses not to act at this point in time he will act and he will get Vengeance for their mother

Congratulations, Holly. You have achieved your goal of shutting down Lynn’s Memorial. You’re a true hero.
All you had to do was take the facts and drench them in non-truths and half-truths to truly demonize your subjects enough to incite an angry and violent reaction. You sensationalized the truth to make the situation much more polarized in order to compel your readers to call and email the church staff (including dozens of death threats) to the point that the local law enforcement agency had to get involved.
Let’s go over some things….
The church complied with Kerry’s wishes? – No. The memorial was planned for the church members that love Lynn very much. Kerry was told that he could have zero involvement in the memorial only being allowed to sit in attendance. The only people you hurt were the ones that really cared about Lynn. Does it really matter to Kerry if there’s a memorial? I doubt it. He probably got more sympathy by the cancellation than he would have gotten if the memorial would have been held.
The pastor and members have “welcomed” Kerry to continue in fellowship? – There is a distinct difference between welcoming someone and simply putting up with them and allowing them to sit in the pew during service.
Honored him with distinction as being a victim? – No. Not even close. Again, he was told that he couldn’t be part of the memorial. When Kerry’s relationship with Spring was confirmed, the pastor immediately contacted him, condemned him of his behavior, and told him that he could no longer hold any position within the church and was only allowed to sit in on the service.
Dr. Charles McClain attenuates the Gospel in the desire to build the congregation’s numbers? He’s a coward? A wolf in shepherds clothing? A modern-day Judas, accepting money to murder the truth? – Wow…those statements are so ridiculous that they would be laughable, if they weren’t so horrible. Do you know Pastor McClain? How did you form these statements? Statements that you’re presenting as the truth to your readers. Surely you’ve done your research, right? Surely you didn’t just demonize someone else just because it fits your narrative to do so, right? It sure looks like you did.
Dr. McClain has elevated Kerry to sainthood? Complete with his own dedicated and wealthy disciples? – Again, wow. Where did those statements come from? It wasn’t the truth. I can assure you of that. By those two statements alone, it proves to anyone that is close to the situation that you have no idea what is really going on and decided to just make up inflammatory information. Unless you’re getting it from Kerry’s page…. if so, you’d have to be a fool to pick and choose what you want to believe from a proven and constant liar.
That must be why the church is so quick to forgive Kerry? – Once again, you show your lack of situational information when you say things like that. Who forgave him? You have no idea. Kerry is a social pariah within the church. He has no power and has very few supporters.
The pastor’s statement to Abram when he said “that’s not ever going to happen”? – That was in reference to the pastor taking action against Kerry’s behavior based solely on allegations. When that conversation occurred (years ago), unfortunately, it was one person’s word against another. The pastor wasn’t willing to take any steps against someone based on what was, at the time, hearsay. As I said earlier, as soon as Kerry’s relationship was confirmed, he was removed from all roles within the church, only allowed to sit in on service.
Pastor McClain and his “band of righteous soldiers” quickly shut down what? The meeting between Spring and her pastor? The result of the meeting? What are you even trying to state? – It doesn’t matter really. Since, no matter what point you’re going for, it’s untrue. Pastor McClain didn’t stand up against the pastor of Spring’s church. Plus….righteous soldiers? Really? You can’t help but continue to push that narrative, can you?
And finally, the lone voice speaking up against Kerry in the MBC? – Now, who was it that initially approached the MBC to remove funding for Kerry? Oh, that’s right: Abram and Pastor McClain. Even Abram talked positively of McClain doing that.
Oh, don’t take my word for it. I implore you to please NOT just take my word for it. The truth is important and I want you to attain it for yourself. Ask Kerry’s sons. Ask Carolyn from the Chocolate or Else blog that has followed and been directly involved in this situation for a significant amount of time. Do your research. Heck, attend a service at FBC-FCC and see for yourself. You won’t see any golden statues of Kerry anywhere. Kerry is a bad person and many many people know that.
You took the basic facts of the situation, altered and sprinkled in various other half-truths, the topped it off with complete and utter lies. Not only did you demonize and pastor and church that almost uniformly stands in opposition of Kerry’s behavior, but you’ve also put hundreds of peoples’ lives in danger. Real danger. Again, don’t believe me. Just stop by on a Sunday and look around at all of the law enforcement and security present.
Who are you helping, anyway? Not the sons. Definitely not Lynn. Spreading misinformation doesn’t help uncover the truth. Deflecting blame and misleading individuals who seek true justice is severely damaging the cause.
I sincerely hope and pray that no one reading your blog decides to take violent action against the church, basing their violent actions on your statements. You spread false information and encourage people to angrily call, email, and go to the church in-person. What could possibly go wrong?
Anyway…
Congrats again on creating the posts that were a main factor in the cancellation of the memorial. The significant number of people that were planning on attending the memorial, people that sincerely loved Lynn, are grateful I’m sure. Continue fighting for “justice” by creating more injustice. It’s worked well for you so far.

STANDING FOR THE “truth”
WOW, what an angry person with soooo much to say and not enough courage to leave your name, but that is what we expect from those who enable and harbor abusers, denial, denial, denial.
Let me tell you a few things; Holly T. Ashley did more research than the cops in this case and she didn’t even have the people in power in her wallet like Kerry, even though anyone with a 3rd grade education could see the fact in this case and know CERTAINTY Kerry Messer is guilty. Holly T. Ashley was more biblical in her approach than those in the church and in law enforcement,
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not become partners with them; 8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Ephesians 5:6-14
So Holly exposed this situation to the light, and you have the nerve to try and insult her and her character, but I can assure you that this will only prove the facts that she needs to go harder for the justice of the victims, and she has more integrity than you and I combined.
Kerry and the rest of the “fan club” exhibit many of his sociopathic tendencies, (controlling, entitled, freedom from accountability, lying, twisting things into their opposites, playing the victim, manipulative, narcissistic, strive for a good public image).
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. (2 Cor 11:13-15)
So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. (Matthew 23:28)
Pastor Jeff Crippen said “We are fools when we want to pet and stroke a wolf into repentance.” I couldn’t agree more!!
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Romans 1:28-31
So justice for Lynn was gained by Holly’s blog and I congratulate her on exposing the lies of this case. But the biggest injustice remains, the smear that is left on the church, “when church discipline leaves the church, so does Christ” shame on FBC-FCC for not keeping the bride of Christ pure and thus become a “non” church as long as it enables abusers and liars.
They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. (Titus 1:16)
All I can say to those who abuse and those who enable abusers especially in this case…. Repent of your sin. It is a stench in God’s nostrils and may the Lord deliver us from ever tolerating a pugnacious coward who would dare damage one of his beautiful image-bearers.

“Not enough courage to leave your name”. So your real name is “pastorofpump”? That’s cool I guess. I didn’t leave my real info because Holly has proven her willingness to unjustly demonize people. I’m not going to be one of those people.

Most of the lies that I pointed out can be easily disproven by simply asking someone actually close to the case. This includes the Messer sons. This includes the local PD. Will you do that? Will YOU seek the truth? Of course you won’t. If you did, you’d just find information that goes against what you insist on believing.
No no, if Holly says it, it must be true. Right? “Pastorofpump”, you are just another one of the shallow-processing, emotion-driven cronies that’s so blind that you can’t even see your own bias.

My bias is God to be glorified in all things, my bias is for the church to be kept pure, my bias is to know the truth so the truth will set me free, my bias is for King Jesus because He is “the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE, my bias is to expose darkness when I see it especially within the church (Eph. 5:6-14) that is from the Bible in case you didn’t know….. Please repent and believe the gospel. And the Messer sons were interviewed. Yes I stand by my statements and I do know first hand because I was part of that investigative process. I apologize for my one error, I said a 3rd grade, I should have said that anyone with a 2nd grade education could see without bias that Kerry is an abuser and guilty of the crime. Denial and minimization that is all you hear from the “cult” of Kerry. So go continue in your delusion and I will go back to what really matters, being a disciple of King Jesus and proclaiming His gospel.

I don’t know you, but as a Christian and a man of God, you are making far more than one mistake. We don’t use grade school education to determine ANYONE’S capabilities. Unless you saw Kerry commit this crime, you don’t know what happened, regardless of your “feelings.” God says unless upon the witness of 2 or 3 you don’t accept an accusation. Being a former soldier and law enforcement, I know if’t REALLY easy for my former colleagues to take “I just know it’s so and so” as absolutes, and then turn around and be wrong.
I understand, I think, your motives for assuming what you do…I get it. But we as Christians cannot assume ANYTHING not clearly shown us of God. And you brought WAY to much spotlight on you with your follow-up to Standing for Truth. A man of God ought not to do that. And to continue to vilify a man (who very well may be guilty) who has not has 2-3 church accusers come forth with eye-witness testimony of the crime, you are not setting a proper example of a Christian. Please consider these things before continuing in these things as they stand now.

I am not saying the authorities used grade school education to determine guilt or innocence, I said any 2nd grader could use the evidence presented and come to the conclusion that Kerry Messer was guilty. I did not see Kerry actually commit the crime, but did you see Kerry NOT commit this crime? Then your feelings shouldn’t come into play either.
And as you know, being that you were in law enforcement, most crimes do not have 2 or 3 witness so we must take up the evidence and there was plenty of evidence in this case. God has given us a brain and a conscience and His Word as our authority to base our judgements on. We are called to discernment and to judge with righteous judgement (John 7:24) and to speak up for the oppressed with Truth and justice.
“Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all the unfortunate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)
So we have opened our mouth for Lynn Messer, because she can’t speak up for herself as she was muted by an evil act. We are a voice for the voiceless. We seek to bring justice for Lynn. “To do righteousness and justice Is desired by the LORD more than sacrifice.” (Proverbs 21:3)
Isaiah 1:17 “learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless (in this case the motherless), plead the widow’s cause.”
I am not claiming any sort of spotlight as I am just a sinner saved by the grace of God and God has called me into this field of domestic violence to be one of His instruments to expose the darkness and evil. This was not a field of my choice but one God called me into and I am passionate for justice and the truth of God’s Word. My motives are the glory of God and the purity of the Bride of Jesus Christ, His church and that is done with church discipline and justice for the victims. As a Christian I am judging based on evidence, the facts/proof put before me and the fruit of the accused life, not as you said an assumption which is void of proof. In other words, there was indeed an investigation. I am not here looking for followers or people to remember my name, I want everyone to know the name of Jesus and I will continue with a very loud voice to do that which He has called me to do.
once again mr. fact checker “standing for truth” in anonymity – You would be incorrect… When you click on “The Pastor of Pump” it will take you to his web posts – where you can see who he is and what he stands for. Unlike cowards like you who spew your false doctrine behind the walls of anonymity. I would again caution you – When you have such an abundance of words without Scripture to support your doctrine it is indeed false and you will stand just as condemned as those who would allow such a monster to dwell within your midst.
Say what you want, Holly. It doesn’t change the fact that numerous statements that you made in your post can be easily disproven by actually looking into them. Why did the people closest to the movement against Kerry distance themselves from you? Why is that? Tell me and all your readers why some of the people at the front of the fight against Kerry’s deceit have removed your links and at least partially denounced your post.
And here is some Scripture, since apparently pointing out your lies without it means I “stand just as condemned”.
– Do no lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him. Col 3:9
– Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Eph 4:25
– Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight. Prov. 12:22
– A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who tells lies will perish. Prov. 19:9
Is that enough? There’s plenty more.
Anyone, including you (Holly), can easily disprove the parts of your post that are non-truths by simply doing a small amount of research. I encourage anyone reading this to do just that. If you think I’m lying, prove me wrong. Look for yourself. I’m not asking anyone to take me at my word. Do the research and find the truth. It’s not too far away. Kerry is a bad person and has certainly done terrible things, but we have to base our opinions on facts. We can’t form our opinions on blatant misinformation. If we do, we’re no better than the evil that we’re fighting against.
I’m not going to waste my time and beat that dead horse any more. This is my final correspondence. Stay within the fog of your biased misconceptions if you want. I encourage you to seek the truth.
Yet I see nothing listed that you are claiming to be non-truth. I stand by what I said and will continue to do so until you and your church purge the evil from among you and he is completely defunded and brought down to the pig-sty pit he deserves until he comes to full repentance or God removes him from the planet.
I won’t go into the enormous amount of those who have jumped on the #justiceforLynn bandwagon – I am happy for the increased support the fight against domestic violence – but the fact remains that I don’t require your approval – I want the Bride of Christ to not be defiled – you don’t seem to get that and how important that message is!
Jesus declared to people like you and your beloved brick and mortar church – You are nothing more than a brood of vipers!

He’s clearly guilty. This from someone who has worked in corrections and read thousands of police reports. It doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out.
