Who told you that? What Bible are you reading?
Why do you believe it? Have you read your Bible today? Well… ever?
Here’s a little news flash….
The scripture that people are refering to and completely taking out of context to get out of getting on their knees is the first book of Corinthians 3: 13 and the verse in its entirety is:
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Temptation … you know that part of life you want to erase by saying: “The Devil made me do it…” uh, well… God says – “Uh… NO…. Try again Adam! You did it.” (if you don’t get the joke implied, read Genesis)
And as far as wanting to get out of “life” because it’s too hard to deal with – Good news is that it does get better – But you have to submit to God’s authority first… and sometimes He’ll bring you to your knees to get it done.
You see, we want to skate through life thinking that we serve a God of our choosing rather than one who is The One and is well… H-O-L-Y… That’s right – Holy! The awesome God that demands respect and states over and over throughout the Bible and with many examples that tell us that He will “chastise his own…” by way of… well, however He choses because He is God.
“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.” (Heb 12:6)
The Bible also talks about Sanctification – this is that process of perfecting you into the likeness of Christ – and we all know what Christ went through for our sake – God wants to make sure you are willing to do the same for HIS SAKE.
“Behold, I am against you, O proud one, declares the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you. The proud shall stumble and fall with none to raise him up and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all that is around him.” (Jeremiah 50:31-32)
We serve a Holy God. We serve a jealous God who demands our praise and our worship… solidarity with Him and His righteous ways. Those who declare that He is God and respect Him for Who He is and walk as His disciples will not perish as those who are mentioned in the scripture above – but you will go through the sanctification process which is much like rehabilitating from a train wreck…
That proverbial train wreck is our unholy, sinful nature.
The Good News is that you will survive… well, that means you will be with the Lord in paradise, for eternity – but what that does NOT mean is you will escape suffering, persecution, hardship, fatalities, bruising, hurt, pain and all the other things that the examples in the Bible had to suffer not to mention what we see here on this earth – Not in America… yet that is…. but it’s all over the world, happening to Christians everywhere – they are being martyred for their belief in Christ … and you want to complain about … what was that exactly?
You didn’t get a raise, your spouse cheated on you, you stubbed your toe? Maybe you lost a spouse or friend or you have cancer… I’m not minimizing your hurt, I”m telling you that you’re not alone. So quite acting like you have the only pity party in town worth listening to.
Yeah, life on earth is tough… and every body has a story… including me… and when it comes to throwing a pity party – I’m freaking Queen! So you don’t have anything on me!
Exactly
Don’t take the scriptures out of context. This world is evil, it’s only going to get worse… and you will suffer through the sanctification process….. great blog so far, right…
Our job is to let others see Christ through the pain.
And that doesn’t mean denying the pain either! I come from a family where we grew up “saving face,” and that meant never showing any signs of distress – always happy – well, you know what, sometimes life sucks! and its hard! It’s painful and sometimes you don’t know which end is up – that is why the scriptures tell us not to “neglect to meet together…” (Heb. 10:25) that is where compassion and true love is found…. that verse goes on to say that we stir one another up, we offer each other love and good works…. unlike our non-believing “friends.”
The Bible warns us “to not be unequally yoked with non-believers,” (2Cor. 6:14). How are they going to help you? They don’t know the healing you need, the compassion you seek or the truth that is found in prayer and scripture! Offering you a shot of tequilla to “kill” the hurt is not a solution!
I have been led down that path on many occassions… what’s worse is when I chose to go down that path of distruction because the pain was fierce and I was looking for relief…anywhere and everywhere… then I had to heal from that… so warning!!!! Do you hear the bells ringing… do you see the “Do NOT Cross” signs coming down over the tracks of your life…?
Without Christ and the fellowship of believers together, we are not going to be able to “handle” anything – that is where we want desperately to grab on to lies that tell us what we want to hear or twisted scripture that feeds our “itching ears.”
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” (2 Tim. 4:3-5)
When we go through these times of suffering God is showing us how desperate we are. How badly we need Him and those whom He has put into our lives. God promises to give you a sound mind – a hero’s attitude if you will. You are to be His instrument of truth and His confidence, His truth, His peace that surpases all understanding for those who are watching you…. You are His living, breathing, walking, talking, testimony…
“Therefore do not throw away your confidence which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him… We are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.”
Hang in there, ditch the trash and the lies in your life and find solice in Christ and His followers! It does get better… Read the book to find the ending… We WIN!
